“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
You
might notice that I ain’t from around here. About two dozen
years of southern environment and education made a tremendous
impression on me. While I have been out of the South for more
years than I was in it, I still sound Southern and still refer
back to those colloquialisms that I learned growing up. I may
live north of the “line”; but, while you can take the boy out of
the South, you can’t that the sound-of-the-South out of the boy.
Dialect is not the only thing that we learn as little bitty
people, we also learn our life-time values. Yes, later
influences have an impact on us; but, the most deeply rooted
principles are those we learned as children. In fact, the Bible
relies upon this truism by noting, “Train up a child in the way
he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
(Proverbs 22:6).
What are we teaching our children? How will it serve them for
the rest of their lives?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ; this
