“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Wednesday; December 26, 2007
If
we were to find ourselves in one of the countries closely tied
to the British Crown, today might be Boxing Day. While I don’t
know much about the celebration, I do know that it s a day
dedicated to people exchanging gifts and tasks with each other
and, in some cases, servants become the served.
The
idea of service might be novel to the world; but, it is deeply
embedded in Christianity. Not only are we told that we should
serve one another, the greatest demonstration of the
heart-and-soul of the movement is found in the Master serving
those He freed from spiritual slavery and healed of moral
depravity. When the Bible mentions Jesus it reminds us, “… He
Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might
die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were
healed.” (I Peter 2:24).
In
the midst of a holiday hangover, it’s easy to feel despondent;
but, let’s remember how blessed we really are. We serve a King
who was willing to serve (and save) us.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ; this
is Charlie Wharton.
