“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Tuesday; November 13, 2007
Several years ago, when discussing investments, the great
commentator, Will Rogers noted, “Buy land. They ain’t
making any more of the stuff.” I don’t know what type of
investor the Okie was; but, he had a keen insight into life.
Years ago, another amateur investor made a similar comment.
When Jesus was discussing security He observed, “Do not lay
up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust
destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up
for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor
rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
(Matthew 6:19-21) Jesus understood the nuances of a very
special exchange rate … trading earthly “stuff” for eternal
“security”. By swapping what we have in this life for what
awaits beyond the pearly gates we will receive dividends
that are out of this world.
Let’s follow Will’s advice and invest in something very
limited; therefore very precious. Something that keen
investors will literally guard with their lives.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
