“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
One of the more interesting stories of the Bible involves
two men named Haman and Mordecai. Haman was an
up-and-coming politician from Babylon while Mordecai was a
pleasant and faithful Jewish refugee. Haman did not like
Mordecai and the hate grew so intense that he constructed a
gallows with Mordecai in mind. An interesting thing
happened on the way to the hanging; Haman ended up getting
the noose.
While there is much more to this story, one of its morals is
that we must be careful what we wish for other people. Had
Haman not been out to get Mordecai, there is a chance he
wouldn’t have gotten his own punishment.
When we deal with people, do we do so with mercy and
acceptance or with a spirit of selfishness and vengeance?
Often, when we pursue our own desires, we lose sight of
reality and discover that we have just enough rope to hang
ourselves.
Let’s learn to use discretion in our approach to our
neighbors; or as the Bible says, “… do not judge and you
will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.” (Luke 6:37).
