“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Have you ever tried to carry on a conversation with someone
who is so wrapped up in themselves that they don’t hear what
you are saying? Worse yet, have we been the one not
listening?
The skill of listening is quickly becoming a lost art.
Too many times, we enter a conversation with a selfish
agenda. Even those conversation that don’t start out
“about me” can turn that way when we fail to take on a
servants role and allow others to say what they feel needs
to be said.
If we are looking for a way to make a difference in the
lives of people, one of the simplest things we can do is
stop talking and start listening. Our world is filled
with too many talkers; what we need are good, patient,
insightful listeners. Often, people aren’t interested in
hearing our advice, they merely want us to listen to their
issues.
While the Bible is full of suggestions for people wanting to
learn to listen, the wise man of Proverbs provided a
true gem when he observed, “He who gives an answer before he
hears, it is folly and shame to him.” (Proverbs
18:13). Remember, any fool can talk, the wise
listen.
