“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When
we think of disciples, we often think about the
righteousness of Paul or the spirit of John; yet, early on,
those who were attracted to Jesus were not (necessarily) the
cream of the social crop. Take for instance, Matthew. Not
only was he a tax-collector, he was also considered a
traitor and an outcast. Until he met Jesus, I’m sure he
had a job; but, probably not much of a life. Then, as
Matthew later recalls, Jesus, “… saw a man, called Matthew,
sitting in the tax office; and He said to him, ‘Follow Me!’
And he rose, and followed Him.” (Matthew 9:9) That day
changed Matthew because he found value, he found a purpose,
he found Jesus.
Who are there Matthews around us? Who are there people that
society has written off; but, possess the value to impact
the world? Are we taking the time to recognize those who
just need a renewed purpose in life? Let’s do what Jesus
did and invite them to follow us to a rewarding life. They
will never be the same!
