“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I
recently came across a quote from Don Miller who observed, “It
is the process that is godliness, not so much the end
result. A godly man will involve himself in the process of
being godly. For godliness is not so much a place we are
going as it is the going itself.”
As I contemplated Mr. Miller’s observation, I was
drawn to the idea of godliness being a process of living,
not a place in life. Since we will never be perfect, we can
never “arrive” at godliness; therefore we must just keep
trying to do good and grow closer to God. There is no way
that we can be good enough to be satisfied, so, we have to
find contentment in the pursuit. In our quest for
godliness, we will celebrate victories throughout our
journey; but, we’ll never arrive at our eventual eternal
destination on our own.
Where are we on our walk with God? Are we making
progress? If we are making the effort, never contented with
where we are, we are closer to godliness than we have ever
been before.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
