“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
There
are some words and phrases that started out as being full of
meaning; but, through their use and overuse have taken on
the illusion of mere platitudes. Phrases like “God bless
you” or “We’ll be praying for you” come attached with rich
promise; but, too often they are just appropriate phrases
which are used at the right time; but, lack a genuine
spirit.
Similarly, when the apostle Paul saluted an early church
with “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 1:3) it was full of
meaning; but do we really appreciate the sentiment? When
Paul highlights grace (forgiveness of sins) and peace (a
contentment that surpasses all strife) he delivers a
powerful message. “Grace and peace” aren’t just religious
words that sound good, they are key concepts of why we
should be willing to give up the world and follow God.
Let’s not avoid spiritual phrases; but, let’s make sure we
use them with the power they truly represent.
