“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I
recently heard a friend of mine use a phrase that I hadn’t
heard is quite a while. When describing someone making a
mountain out of a molehill, he asked; “Do we major in minors
and minor in majors?”. In essence, the question wonders if
we spend too much time on things that really don’t matter
too much. Are we consumed by issues that aren’t all that
important, while allowing some of the weightier things to go
unattended?
There is a modern saying that ponders, “What’s the big
deal?”. Often, this phrase is used to challenge the
significance of an event; but, there could be another side
to the query. Have we ever really stopped to ask, “What’s
the big deal?”: “What’s really important?”, “What should be
occupying our time and effort?”
So, what is the big deal? What should we be pursuing as
the major issues in our lives? There will be a day when we
will have to account for our pursuits in life; will they
appear significant or will they turn out to be pretty minor?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
