“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Do
you remember the first time you heard your voice being
played back from a recording. Most of us quickly found
fault with the machines we were using because there is no
way we could sound that bad! The truth of the matter is
that; for the most part, it’s not the recording device
that’s defective, it’s us!
Have we ever thought about how we sound? Oh, most of us
know the tone of our voice; but, what about the resonance of
our heart? Have ever listened to the words we use or, even
more importantly, the spirit of our conversation? Are we
positive or negative? Do we say things that uplift the
people around us or are we continually gossiping and
belittling them?
Centuries ago, a spiritual man observed, “A constant
dripping on a day of steady rain And a contentious woman are
alike …” (Proverbs 27:15). While this principle isn’t
gender-specific, it does challenge us to consider what we
are saying.
Let’s take the time to listen to how we sound. Not to the
pitch of our voice on a recording; but, to the impact it’s
having on the lives of the people around us.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
