“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

If
there is a more noble quest in this life than pursuing
wisdom, I’m not sure I know what it is. There are several
great things we can do; but, one that has the most powerful
impact on ourselves and others is developing insight.
While few people will debate this issue, the quest for
wisdom is often something that stumps us. We know we want
it; but, where do we get it?
The wise king, Solomon, pondered wisdom, and came up with a
gameplan when he noted, “Listen to counsel and accept
discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days.”
(Proverbs 19:20) According to the sage, the key to
attaining wisdom is by heeding the advice of the wise people
around us and being open to being disciplined when we need
it. Most of us like the former – it’s fun to sit at the
feet of the enlightened and gain from them – but, we aren’t
much on accepting discipline. Maybe the reason is that we
view discipline as punishment rather than the beginning of
wisdom.
Do we want to be wise? Are we willing to pay the price?
