“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I’m
not sure how “religious” Ben Franklin was; but, he did talk
a great deal about spiritual matters. Franklin was once
quoted as saying, “What is
serving God? ‘Tis doing good to man.”. The great
statesman, orator and creator understood that what made God
pleased wasn’t necessarily a resounding worship in a
pristine setting; religion was serving others.
Centuries before Ben walked the earth, a servant
of God wrote, “This is pure and undefiled religion in the
sight of our God and Father, to visit orphans and widows in
their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the
world.” (James 1:27) In essence, we please God by not only
doing right things, we also please Him by doing people right
– especially those who can’t help themselves.
This weekend, we hope that you will be worshipping
God in some place; but, let’s not relegate our service to
Him to some building, let’s extend it out to somebody.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
