“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Tuesday; February 5, 2008
It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child.
In essence, children need the help and support of a lot of
people to become successful. They need exposure to all
kinds of influences, talents and input to become
well-rounded. Even children with good, caring, loving
parents can benefit from listening to positive adult role
models.
In a comparable way, it takes insight to raise a village.
It is often perceived that a society left to it’s own
collective intelligence will be successful; but, that’s not
always true. For a community to grow and develop, wise men
and women must step forward to educate, encourage and
collectively direct where we should be going. Also, just
like that successful child, a community must have the
willingness to listen to the sage advice of people who know
what’s best for us – not just economic advisors; but,
spiritual leaders as well. The Bible reminds us, “Where
there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of
counselors there is victory.” (Proverbs 11:14)
