“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Tuesday; February 12, 2008
Have you noticed the role that alcohol plays in our
society? We can’t wait to see the newest commercials for
it, we debate whether it should be taxed and pass laws about
how old you should be before you consume it. We make
determinations about the amount a person can have in their
system and safely operate a vehicle. We even discuss who
can sell it and where it can be sold. The consumption of
alcohol has a prominent place in our community.
The use of alcohol has been around for thousands of years;
but, so have the warnings that have been placed on it. In
fact, one of the wisest men to ever walk the face of the
earth, King Solomon noted, “Do not look on the wine when it
is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down
smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent, and stings
like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, and your
mind will utter perverse things.” (Proverbs 23:31-33) As
we rationally debate all these issues surrounding alcohol,
let’s not forget the emotional and social consequences it
can do when it abused.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
