“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Tuesday; February 19, 2008
Veneer is one of the greatest inventions of all time. By
putting a thin sheet of something over the real thing, we
can make it look different without going through the
investment of having to change anything substantially.
Now, let me clarify my thought – veneer is a great thing for
buildings; but, it is a terrible thing for lives. Too
often, as people, we do our best to mask our true lives by
applying a thin layer of social acceptability over who we
really are. This can work well for a while; but, eventually
something will crack and everyone will find us out.
Rather than having to worry about keep up a
façade, let’s get our true selves in order. Let’s be
willing to live the good life, so that people can look at
the real us and be proud of what they see. In other words,
as Will Rogers put it, “Live in such a way that you would
not be ashamed to sell your parrot to the town gossip.“
Think about it! For
the Madison Avenue Church of Christ; this is Charlie
Wharton.
