“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Thursday; January 3, 2008
How are leaders selected? Too often supervisors are chosen, not
by strengths; but, by seniority. In essence, the ones who get
the position are the ones who have merely been there the
longest.
While this might appear to be an observation about employers,
our real point is to those of us considering promotions. When
we find ourselves in a position where we could be asked to take
our leadership to the next level, let’s ask ourselves, “Am I up
to the task?”. Leadership is not something that we are merely
promoted into, it should be something for which we strive – not
just for the recognition; but, because we believe we can do the
job effectively. Hundreds of years ago, a wise man noted, “Let
not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as
such we shall incur a stricter judgment.” (James 3:1) and while
the original application is to teachers, the same can be said
about leaders?
Are
we being considered for a leadership role? Is it really a good
career move – for us and the rest of the agency?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ; this
