“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Tuesday; January 22, 2008
Why do we make friends? There are several reasons for us to
develop relationships; but, one of them is so that we can
have someone upon whom we can depend when things are amiss
in our lives. On the surface this might seem to be a bit
self-serving; but, there is a value in having people who
care about us when we are in crisis.
Now, having said that, what would happen if we surrounded
ourselves with people who didn’t help when we needed them
the most? Imagine how hollow life would be if we thought we
could depend upon someone for support; but, when we relied
upon them, they were nowhere to be found. The sad part
about this statement is that some of us don’t have to
imagine that scenario; we have lived it.
As we choose our friends, let’s not be completely selfish;
but, let’s make it a point to choose people upon whom we can
depend for a good example and compassionate word … or we’ll
lament along with Solomon who noted, “Like a bad tooth and
an unsteady foot is confidence in a faithless man in time of
trouble.” (Proverbs 25:19)
