“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Today, we celebrate the 232nd birthday of the
United States. While we might take our nation’s presence
for granted there was a day when this new land meant
something wonderful to the people just off it’s shores.
Many people who were fleeing religious and political
oppression set out for the promise of something better and
they approached the shores, the lighthouses that dotted the
coastlines beckoned them to a freedom they had never before
known.
In an interesting parallel, the lives of Christian believers
should serve as something similar to another form of
refugee. There is a world full of people who are running
from some form of spiritual oppression. They have heard
that there is hope in a new world; but, they are looking for
someone to lead them safety. When Jesus talked of the value
of His disciples, He noted, “Let your light shine before men
in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify
your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
Are we standing safely on the shore of a new spiritual
world? Are we guiding people to their safe harbor as well?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
