“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I
hate meatloaf! Now, I can hear everyone out there saying,
“Oh, I have a wonderful recipe for meatloaf, you’d like
mine.”. That’s a nice gesture; but, frankly my answer
remains the same. I don’t like my mom’s meatloaf … I
wouldn’t like my wife’s – simply put, I hate meatloaf.
Now, having said that, I have been, on occasion, socially
compelled to eat it. I didn’t like it; but, I did eat it.
So, to be honest, I should say I don’t like it rather than
hating it. You see, hate implies a complete distain for
something to the point of avoiding it altogether.
The rationale for my observation about meatloaf is to make a
point about sin. While I dislike meatloaf; God demands that
we hate sin. The New Testament instructs us, “Hate what is
evil; cling to what is good.” (Romans 12:9 – NIV) We can’t
simply dislike sin; but, still tolerate it; people of God
must abhor evil.
When we face sin, how do we respond: with lethargy or
loathing?
