“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A
couple of weeks ago, a group from our church had that chance
to work on the Habitat For Humanity house. As we worked on
the house, there were several people doing some technical
stuff (like measuring and cutting the gabled siding) while I
resigned myself to doing the more menial tasks. You know, I
was okay with that because I have very little talent when it
comes to doing that type of work and even less skill at
advising those caliber of people. We would have all been in
trouble had I been the one charged with overseeing that
task.
As I thought about my role, I got to thinking about how I
should also be pleased with another subservient role –
serving God. It’s awful tempting to play the role of one of
God’s advisors; but, I have neither the power nor the
insight to do an effective job. Frankly, neither God nor
mankind would be better off if I ran the world.
Let’s accept our role as servants of God rather than His
counselors. Remember what the Bible says, “… the
foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of
God is stronger than men.” (I Corinthians 1:25)
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of
Christ; this is Charlie Wharton.
