“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The writers of the New Testament found a vast array of ways
to describe Jesus; but, one of the most compelling was the
King’s role as a Servant. In fact, when the Apostle Paul
wrote about Jesus he noted that He, “… emptied Himself,
taking the form of a bond-servant …”. (Philippians 2:7)
Often, when we think of Jesus accepting the role of a
servant, we look back at His example of washing the feet of
the disciples in the upper room the night before His
death. While this is a graphic example of service, His
greatest act of selflessness came the next day when He
accepted the role of a sacrificial Lamb, slaughtered for our
sins.
It’s great to look forward to a time when the saved will
reign with Jesus; but, until then, let’s learn from His
willingness to serve. Whether it’s as small as allowing
someone ahead of us in line or as grand as exchanging our
lives for theirs, let’s follow Jesus’ example, look for ways
that we can put others first and take on the role of a
servant.
