“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
On a episode of M*A*S*H*, Colonel Potter described the
classic Western movie, My Darling Clementine, as
having three things that made a movie great, “Horses,
cowboys and horses”. As you might imagine, the good
colonel loved horses and anything that blended them into the
mix had to be good.
The other day I was signing the old gospel song, “Give Me
The Bible” and was reminded of how Priscilla J. Owens
described the Bible as “law and love combining”. What a
wonderful observation. The Bible is more than a law book,
it shows the perfect blend of commandments and concern. God
doesn’t just hand down a bunch of rules, He blends in that
perfect ingredient that makes everything better, love. Not
only does He tell us how to live, He also shows us how much
He cares for us and, then, reminds us how we ought to care
for one another through love.
As we read the Bible, let’s think about how great the book
really is. It blends together the two things that make life
good: direction and devotion.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
