“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Today is May 1. Today represents a lot of things to a lot
of people. For those who grew up with the Soviet influence,
it was a day that was looked at with suspicion in the
Western Hemisphere. For school folks, it represents the
beginning of the end of the school year. Yet, if there is
something that today is known for in this part of the world,
today is May Day.
I don’t know where it began; but, one of the coolest
traditions associated with this day is anonymously handing
out May baskets. The great thing about this is that the
value isn’t in the quality of the gift; it’s in the spirit
of the giver. The basket may be nothing more than a plastic
cup with a handful of caramel corn; but, it is special
because someone thought enough of us to give it to us.
While I like the tradition of the day, we should question
why today should be any different than any other day?
Shouldn’t we do our best to show kindness to all those
around us? Remember, the Bible reminds us to be, “… kindly
affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor
giving preference to one another …”. (Romans 12:10)
