“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
One of the tools that the criminal justice system uses to
get to the heart of truth is a machine commonly called a lie
detector. The device is designed to see if someone’s
reactions to stress are congruent with their responses. The
point is to protect society by getting to truth.
Interestingly enough, lie detectors are a valuable part of
another process: religion. Society has tried to seduce
people into believing lies for centuries. Our world has
tried to dupe us into believing in the virtue of selfishness
or that life has no meaning. Satan has tried to infiltrate
our world with a philosophy that says, if it feels good, do
it. In a concern that exists into today, an early church
leader warned, “ … I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived
Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from
the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” (II
Corinthians 11:3).
Are we trying to detect the lies society is telling us? If
we are going to protect our eternity, we need to get to the
truth.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
