“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
If you are familiar with the term “oxymoron” you know that
sometimes we put words together that don’t seem to mesh.
Concepts like “jumbo shrimp” and “pretty ugly” seem to be
far apart; but, they make sense when unified in the right
setting.
In the Bible be find some oxymorons – take for example this
observation, “… the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from
the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14). The
idea of “grace” (which represents forgiveness) and “truth”
(which exemplifies accountability) can be polar opposites;
but, with the coming of Jesus, the Savior, the terms can
coexist – not just in the same sentence; but, in the same
life. Through the gift of God’s grace, we can be
accountable for what we have done; but, still be forgiven.
Often, the folly of language is seen as a frailty of
mankind; but, here, as in our own lives, with the power of
God, even craziness can make sense.
