“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
If
you don’t know, I spend a good portion of my employable life
working in Law Enforcement. The other night, I was pulling
a plainclothes shift which involved driving around a local
area in an older model van. As I was out looking for the
“bad guys”, I received a phone call from a dispatcher asking
me where I was and what I was doing. When I told her, she
laughed and said that someone had called in wanting to
report me as a “creepy looking guy” driving around them,
making them feel uncomfortable. Imagine that, here I was, a
church-going, straight-laced, law-enforcing person trying to
protect society and I looked “creepy”.
While I take no offense to the phone call, it does serve as
a reminder that people are not always what they initially
appear. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t report strange
behavior; but, when it comes to individually judging people,
let’s get to know their content before assessing their
character.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
