“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I
don’t know who came up with the scoring system for the game
of Rock, Paper, Scissors; but, I’ve always had my
doubts about them. I understand the concept that a rock can
pound scissors; but, I’m not too sure how paper covers
rock. To be honest, if we scored it logically, the rock
should always win; but, what would be the fun in that?
There is a parallel in this game found in humanity. If we
were to ask which is more mighty: judgment or mercy, most
of us would probably pick judgment. I mean, after all there
is power in judging people faults and failures, isn’t
there? In reality … or at least in Scripture … truth
doesn’t always follow logic. The Bible notes, “… judgment
will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy
triumphs over judgment.” (James 2:13) Yes, judgment is
important; but, the ability to apply mercy makes humans
human.
Let’s hold people accountable for the choices they make;
but, let’s not forget to show them mercy when they realize
the error of their ways.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
