“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

          If you like your country music spiced with a bit of reggae; you probably have heard Kenny Chesney’s newest hit, “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven”.  In the song, Chesney capitalizes on the old joke whose punch line is, “Of course I want to go to heaven; I just thought you were getting up a trip right now.”

          Religion, would be easy if we could pick and choose our end of time.  If we knew when we were going to face our Maker; we could live as we chose to right up until that time when we had to change our ways and mend our spiritual fences.  While that might be the easy way to do it; that’s not reality.  Frankly, none of us know when we’ll find ourselves standing on the brink of eternity with nothing but our past dictating our future.  In describing this, the Bible highlights the uncertainty of our existence by noting, “… you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.” (I Thessalonians 5:2)

          Are we ready for eternity?  If we really want to go to heaven, today is the day we need to prepare.
