“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When I hear the phrase “inner child” I immediately cringe
and await some pop psychologist’s description of why we are
so messed up. A few years ago, someone coined this phrase
to explain why we were what we were; yet, I would like to
borrow it for a challenge.
What do we do when our “inner child” wants to come out and
play? I understand that life can be (and should be) serious
business – after all, eternity is riding on what we choose
to do – but, every so often, we need to release the child in
our lives and go out and have fun. Now, I’m not advocating
pursing debaucherous living, I’m saying that periodically we
need to take off our emotional business suits and put on our
play clothes. The Bible reminds us of our need to play when
it notes, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken
spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22)
Let’s work hard; but, let’s also take some time for some
good ol’ wholesome play. Not only will it let us have some
fun, it will also help us work even better.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
