“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Most
of us who grew up post-1960s know who Carl Sagan is. While
I don’t agree with all of his analysis, I came across an
interesting quote of his. The scientist once observed, “…
the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply
that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at
Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright
brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.”
In his own, unique way, Sagan’s philosophy reminds us of two
important elements of life. The first is to be yourself –
even if it means going where no one has gone before; but,
the second is just as important, in being yourself, be
smart. When we use our heads, who knows the worlds we might
discover; but, when we don’t there will be people around us
who will scoff … often for good reason.
Are there people snickering at us? Is it our problem or
theirs?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
