“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

September 12, 2008
Last weekend was special because it was the beginning of the
new NFL season. The best thing about the early part of the
schedule is that everyone still has a chance. Fans
everywhere are hoping for a championship – who knows; maybe
this could be “our” year. Now that the first week is over,
some spirits might be dampened; but, there’s always this
weekend and the platitude that one game does not a season
make.
The idea of new beginnings has a special place in our
hearts. Wouldn’t be neat to be able to start all over
again? Wouldn’t it be great if we could just close the book
on the old chapter in our life and start anew.
Interestingly, in Christianity, we can. One of the allures
of the early Christian church was summed up in the message,
“… if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old
things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (II
Corinthians 5:17)
Is it time to start over? How about this weekend? It might
be Week 2 in the NFL; but, it can be opening day in our
lives.
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
