“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Often, when we refer to something as a “closet” activity,
it’s a bad thing. The implication is that we are ashamed of
what we are doing and are forced to do it in secret. While
there are some times that being a closet-doer is a bad
thing, there is one closet activity that is noble. Being a
closet-prayer may carry with it a label of one who is
ashamed of praying; but, that’s not the truth. In fact,
when Jesus taught about prayer, He encouraged us to head
indoors. Surrounded by people who made public displays of
their prayer life, Jesus toned down His disciples by saying,
“… when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have
shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and
your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” (Matthew
6:6)
While there is a value in public prayer, often the most
intense and rewarding prayer isn’t one that is done with
eloquence, it is the one that is so personal that we only
want to share it when we are alone with God.
Are we praying as much as we could? Are we praying as much
as we should?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
