“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

In
years gone by, we have been taught about some mystical
things in such a literal way, that they seem real. Take,
for example, the mythical gods of the Greek and Roman times
who became so publicized that even today, people speak of
the Achilles or Zeus as if they existed.
One of the dangerous in this misconception is that it takes
some things that really are real, and dilutes their impact.
Take, for example, Satan. If we were to ask people who
seems more real, Hercules or the devil, a lot of people
would choose the mythical Grecian. The problem with doing
this is not in elevating a figment of someone’s imagination;
rather, it in de-emphasizing the reality of Satan and,
therefore, increasing his effectiveness.
Even though Satan relishes the perception he is fake, let’s
not only believe in Satan; let also see him for who he is –
our adversary, the devil who “… prowls about like a roaring
lion, seeking someone to devour.” (I Peter 5:8)
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
