“THINKABOUTIT” THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Monday;
September 29, 2008
The other day, I was watching a program about Washington
D.C. and the narrator made a statement that really stuck
with me. In describing a perception held by some early
Americans, he said that we were supposed to be a great and
good nation. While, on the surface, this statement might
seem to be a redundant hyperbole, there is something special
in it. We have been blessed with such a massive land base
and so much wealth that we have become one of the great
superpowers on the earth; yet, there is something more. In
the right of power, comes the requirement of goodness. We
have been given a lot of tools, we much choose to use them
in a way in which we demonstrate righteousness and practice
goodness.
Our nation has been blessed with the freedom to worship it’s
Creator and Sustainer, the Great and Good God. Are we
taking advantage of that? If so, we can maintain our status
as perceived by our forefathers; but, if not, what’s to say
that God won’t raise up another great and good power to put
us in our place?
Think about it! For the Madison Avenue Church of Christ;
this is Charlie Wharton.
